Fast Friday Funny- Breast Feeding Doll

Okey dokey so there has been a fair bit of uproar about this Spanish dolly Bebe Gloton. She is a little baby doll who comes with a set of almost-breasts for your child to strap on and use to breast feed the dolly.

Ok so by "almost breasts" I am referring to the crop top with two flowers on the front in place of nipples. When the child holds the dolly up to the flowers the dolly begins to make sucking motions.

Seriously!

People have been horrified by this. Frankly I find it quite amusing and I'm not sure I'm upset by it at all. We have dollies who do little poos and pees in little fake potties. We have dollies who come with bottles of milk, we have dollies who come with fake solid food and we have dollies who swim in the bath. Why is this any different?

Not saying I'm going to buy one puh-lease, but I don't see what the furore is about? How is breastfeeding a sexual thing? That's perverted! It's a feeding issue like the bottle.

I can't even link you through to the doll's official website because it has collapsed due the pressure of a gazillion more hits than ever anticipated, but believe me it's a real doll!

Here is a link to a demo video of Bebe Gloton on youtube.

Anyway it is my fast friday funny for this week and stay tuned I will be back later with the winner of our massive giveaway.

For those who follow me on Twitter, thank you for your prayers and support. Keep on praying for Alli. If you or someone you know has contact with Dr Charlie Teo please email asap thanks x

  1. I must say, I am also very amused by this. A bit disturbed, yes, but also amused. Surprising this kind of doll hasn't been marketed before since dolls with baby bottles have been around forever.

  2. True story, I looked and looked for a breastfeeding doll for miss 8 when she was little. I refused to buy the bottle feeding weeing and pooing ones. So if I had have seen something like this I would have brought it!! I think the thing that is funny about it is the top, what is with that?!?
I really do hope and pray that Alli has the best possible out come. xox

  3. I'm amazed that this is controversial. A Brats doll is worse. Hmm, normalising breastfeeding vs. a doll dressed like a stripper? I know which I'd prefer my daughter to play with.

  4. I think it's hilarious! And not altogether a bad idea. I know so many mums with little girl toddlers who "breast feed" their dollies when the new baby arrives. As for the whole sexual thing... my 73 year old Dad is a boob man. Pure and simple and he's proud of it. But ask him about breastfeeding in public and he gets on his high horse "it's natural and a mother's right. There is nothing sexual about breast feeding!" Giddy-up Daddy!

  5. HaHA! That is funny!! Can't see what the big deal is...my girls breastfed their own dolls anyway, just not quite in that flash electronic style. and shock horror.....they actually lifted their tops and tried to do it properly ;)

  6. Funny! I don't understand the big deal. I remember my little one breast-feeding her dolls, too. Probably more realistic than the one made to do it :) LOL

  10. Kids love to play make-believe...there's no harm. It does kind of remind me of a scene in Meet The Fockers though! ;-D

  11. Funny, just as I am trying to wean my son off his daytime feeds. Rather unhappily for him.
Trying to contact a former patient of CT, they may not be able to help but will let you know if I have any success.

  13. I don't think breastfeeding is sexual or disgusting but this toy is kind of creepy to me. I think its because I see a lot of teen mums where I live and seeing a 6 year old breastfeeding just gives me horrible visions of them getting younger and younger. It just seems like a thing that grown ups should be doing, not little girls. But each to his own...

But I don't like the dolls that poo and pee either. I know, I know, its all natural but so is farting and snot and I don't want dolls that do that either. Why can't our kids toys be nice and cute. There is plenty of time for kids to deal with all the other stuff. The most my dolls ever did was crawl and that was good enough for me. And no mess!

  14. I'm not weirded out at all. I actually think it's kind of cute. Also, this looks like a spanish doll. Breasfeeding is the norm, not the exception in Latin America so I'm not surprised little girls want to imitate their moms, I'm sure girls see their moms breastfeeding their younger sibblings.

  15. I want to see a doll that does explosive poos and projective vomiting. Why don't those exist?????

(sorry it's the weekend and I've already lost my mind)

  16. I guess it's the interactive quality that is the problem. Doing something TO a baby, or FOR the baby (in a child's mind is can seem like a real baby after all) is one thing, but the baby doing something TO the child... especially when seeing mothers use their real nipples, and not little flowers...mmmm, I can see it leading to children wanting to interact with their body parts which may cause issues later. I don't have any baby dolls or brats or barbies around because my daughter who is 8 thinks that plastic people are a bit creepy and prefers real friendships with adults and babies and children her age, and anyone... people at the shops, playground.... My son who is 5 agrees and neither have been drawn towards them although relatives continue to give them such toys (if only they knew... fine line to disappoint them!... ramble, sorry). They will play with them if other children are over for a playdate and they want to play dress up etc, out of politeness.

I played with barbies and loved it at the time... my sister and I used to make them give birth.... we were told the facts of life VERY early on.... we knew where kissing Ken and fooling around GOT you!!! Thanks mum (although our Ken's were KISS dolls.... Gene and Paul with costumes on! picture it!)

As long as the child knows it's PRETEND I think the harm is minimal and may even help..... especially jelousy with mummy and a baby around... But when a child becomes obsessive about it and overly concerned with breasts and DOESN'T pass through that 'phase'.... I can see the abuse/darker side creepily creeping in... not everyone sees children as people to be respected.

  17. Frankly anything that helps a generation of kids to grow up seeing breast feeding as a natural part of life, and nothing to cast scorn on mothers for do so in public, is great as far as I'm concerned.

I've never really understood the negative hoo-haa about these types of things, don't the nay sayers have better things to do? And, as others have said, I'd have this over a Bratz doll any day.

  18. I think it's funny that a silly doll can cause such an uproar! I wouldn't buy one, why spent money on a weird little flower nipple thing? If your children have younger siblings, they have probably seen breastfeeding done, and have most likely "breastfed" their dolls for a bit. My daughter did when my twins were born, much to my husbands horror! =) I can see the line between pretending and having a doll that actually "feeds". Just keep it out of your home then, and to each his own :) Thanks Carolyn!! This was quite funny!
