I do not have a juicy bum

I have an almost large for my frame, dimply flattish bum so no thank you I do not wish to wear anything from Juicy Couture a la fellow mummy of a 1 year old Christina Aguilera but I wonder, is there a great tracksuit/sweatsuit alternative for those of us who don't want to get about the burbs with the word "juicy" written on our posteriors?

Jeans? Yes they used to be my never fail emergency pants. Unfortunately since having my daughter the only pair of jeans that I can get over my thighs are my maternity jeans. Last weekend I made my husband confiscate them and hide them downstairs in the mancave so I wouldn't be able to find them again.

It is not ok to be wearing maternity jeans when you are 15 months post baby. It's just not ok but I refuse to buy a new pair of regular jeans 4 sizes bigger than the 23 pairs I own that are NOW way too small. So what to wear on those cold ratty mornings when you need to whisk the baby off to the supermarket for a grape emergency. (more about my daughter's grape addiction another time) could I really venture out in a pair of trackydacks?

I have always been against them in public unless you are A.)Paris Hilton B.)An athlete (maybe after my 4k run I will qualify as an athlete? or C.)A middle aged housewife who has given up on trying to look presentable.

Please don't let me be C.) already? How did that happen? One day I was in The Maldives on my very luxe honeymoon and the next day I am here searching for a pair of tracksuit pants to wear in public. Oh gosh!

Any other pudgy mamas out there who are struggling to hang onto the old pre baby body and not be tempted to buy a velour leisure suit with juicy on the bum?

  1. I think there is a line that you cross when your figure is not your ideal.

Mine is so far beyond my ideal, that its just a dot on the (distant) horizon. And whilst I hate wearing track pants out of the house, i will on occassion. Mainly when I just need to grab one item at the supermarket (in your case grapes). One can not wear them to do several million tasks (unless you are sick, then its free for all). You may definatly not go to lunch/coffee/met a friend in such attire.

But, they have to be 'classy' (if such a thing exists) trackpants. They cant be the $20 special ones that would fit a small army in. They must be semi well fitting. And of a brand. A reputable brand, such as Adidas, Nike, Puma et al. They must not have stains or holes, and must be worn with a similar fashioned top. And runners (unlike the woman in Woolies this morning wearing trackies and stilettos :S ).

Follow my conditions, and if you get questioned still, the explanation of "I was just going for a brisk walk" comes in handy...even if you are only walking the aisles of Woolies

Oh god, i just put a list of conditions on track pants. Suppose it does justify the $500 i spent in the sports store the other day ;)

  3. Mella you are funny, rump makes me think of a steak! No more food analogies while I am on my diet.

April now I like your way of thinking but part of me thinks that by making a list of almost half decent rules you are trying to excuse the fact that you are getting out in public in your trackies. Once I cross that line I know I'll be stuck over there and I might as well get some uggs and maybe stop brushing my teeth.

  4. Another one who has had to banish my maternity jeans as they were becoming a bit of a crutch and an excuse to eat too much chocolate. I love my cargo pants (even though my stylish younger sister is disgusted). They hide a multitude of sins, are so comfy and I feel better about being out in them than in trackies.

  5. Buy just one new pair of jeans that fits you now. Its so nice to have a pair that fits and as you shrink and no longer fit them you can buy just one pair of the next size until your back at the size you have 23 pairs of. That's what I did post baby and I really wore through that one pair of jeans.

  6. I agree with marci_jo, i think thats the best idea. And I'm sure you'll slim down. And its so awesome that you honeymooned in Maldives, I'm from the Maldives. :D Love your blog.

  7. Pllllease do not resort to trackie pants just yet???!!! track suit pants are in no way flattering whatever brand they are, especially if you get a 'cheap' pair..ewwww
Katies and Sussan do pretty good jeans and coming up to mothers day they always have sales on so perhaps you can consider this alternative until you are post race and minus that pesky 10 kilos !!! good luck

  8. Trackies rock. Break free and cut loose - who cares what everyone else thinks!

  9. I wear trackies far more often than I care to think about. It is my walking habit that I blame. More about my walking habit on my blog :)

Anyhoo my trackie of choice for aimlessly walking around my suburb several times a day is Bonds in the hipster style.

Like you I no longer want to wear my maternity jeans so I found a pair of comfy cargo pants in Sussans.

  10. I know how you feel! I had my baby six months ago and I'm finally figuring out that I will never fit into those pre-pregnancy clothes again and will be getting rid of them... unless I want to keep one just for motivation to put down that huge plate of goodies!

I used to work at a hospital and have scrub bottoms I wear around the house. I don't wear them out except for the quick trip to the post office or store... but as mom's we have to right to do what we want! So if you want trackie pants with juicy on the butt, go for it!!!

  11. HI- a friend sent me a link to your blog so I'm new!

Have you tried Yoga pants? A la Victoria's Secret? I wear them a LOT.

  12. another vote for Bonds tracksuits!
leggings and a nice dress could be an option too?

  13. I was also always anti-trackies but the damn things are so comfortable! I have a couple of pairs of plain black yoga pants which are a nice compromise - they still look fairly smart but are as comfy as the old, worn terry ones.

  14. Sucks, don't it.

I'm EIGHT YEARS post-baby. Was nice and thin there for a while, too. But this past year . . . it's crept back on to the point that, I too, have little in my closet I can wear.

It's annoying because I have lots of lovely clothes.

And I live in Moscow, where, economic crisis notwithstanding, it's too damn expensive to run out and buy something.

My hand has been forced. I'm back on my low carb wagon.

    Sigh.

  15. Third the Bonds trackie dacks- mine have a fold down waistband and fit really well- not that daggy trackie dack you see on some.

Perhaps I'm trying too hard to justify it, but I don't really care too much really- have you seen what other mums are wearing? You'll hardly be alone!

  16. I third (or 4th?) the Bonds trackies- they rock! Mine are a trackie/yoga pant hybrid that are very flattering and perfectly acceptable for a supermarket run.

If you check out what the ther mums are wearing you'll hardly be alone!

  17. If you have to have trackies, you should try lulu lemon. The lycra is quite thick- which hides my dimply bum, and the seams are sewn to make your bum look great!
I too have bought jeans larger than my prepreg size to accomodate the massive change in girth and change in my body shape. However I refused to spend what I would usually on a pair of jeans as these would be my 'fat jeans'. So I am torturing myself with a pair of Target so called 'skinny' (but they are really my fat bottom jeans!)jeans right now. I now have major inspiration to loose weight to rid myself of the Target jeans!
As for the scrub bottoms- once you go drawstring you can never go back!

  18. Congratulations! You are Blog of the Day!
Nice job you are doing around here. I spent some time reading your blog and I really enjoyed!

I added you blog, hope you don't mind!

  19. Thank you all for helping me stay strong and resist the urge to join the tracky brigade because you all know that once I start I'll never stop. I think I'll just go back to the leggings and little dress and cardi on top. At least it works with my ballet flats and we all know the dramas I have with new shoes.

  20. I am so pleased someone else other than me struggles with post baby weight more than 2 minutes after labor. I find it insulting when people complain about their baby fat barely 3 months post birth.

I am 7 years gone, 3 babies down, and pre child figure nowhere in sight.

My advice (from experience) is keep the jeans hidden…if only I had my time again!

  21. Carolyn quite seriously you must buy a pair of jeans that fit. Even if they're not the same size as you used to be, make sure they fit right and make you feel your old size, then take them home and cut the size tags out lol. Must also buy yourself a decent pair of Adidas trackies and keep them in A1 condition for thse times you have to throw something on!

  22. Do they sell LuLu Lemon in Australia? They are much classier than the whole Juicy bum thing and are extremely comfortably and fit like a dream!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Echo, they do have lulu in aus! My wonderful canadian friend Mia put me on to them and then they appreared at Mosman Village, so I could waddle my post baby body up there and wriggle my fat bottom into their yoga pants! They are a little morse stylish, and a little less J-Lo than Juicy.

  24. Ugh! I feel you girl! My son is almost 16 months, and I am still in denial about my body fat! It's ok though! Our babies make it all worth while! Ok, not really, who am I fooling, it sucks!

  25. Oh I am going to hunt down Lulu thank you so much Woodles! May even walk there with the parm if I am feeling particularly fit.

There were a few abusive comments as well- thanks for the laugh, sorry I chose not to publish those but I'd prefer to keep this a fun blog.

  26. I'm new too...but I am going to add you to my list.

Had to laugh out loud as this morning..I put away my maternity jeans and had the thought that I had better hide them so I stop trying to wear them 13 months post babe. I think this is my sign to get them out of the house! :)

    Great blog by the way!

  27. You would be proud of me...I have weeded all maternity clothing out of my closet. My youngest is 10 months. I decided to pitch it all!
I do reside in yogie pants regularly. My fave is a new pants style that look like dress pants but are made of yogie material. I throw them on w/ a set of uber high heals and a top that shows off the girls. Takes the eyes right off the bum! :-)

  28. My son is older now but alas I have to say I never did the juicy thing because I am not A. or B. and I refuse to ever be C. I am not wealthy and I do not have snobbish fashion ideas, I am a professor at a small college. That means everywhere I go I have a chance to see a student, and, if they ever saw me shaking my plump derriere in juicy or running pants I would suffer terribly from it in lectures that followed said occassion lol!

  29. The best trackies I've found are from Victoria Secret. They are cheap, come in a million different lengths and colours and they wash really well. Shop online!
