Happy?

It took hours to get the Tinker to sleep tonight. Tried everything.

In the end I said - "want me to sing you a song?"

"ok" she said.

"which one?"

"Happy."

So I began "If you're happy and you know it, go to sleep. If you're happy and you know it go to sleep"

She interupted me. "Pine! Pine!"

She wanted me to sing the happy song in the voice of Mr Pontipine. It's 9pm I'm home alone with her and her bedtime is 7pm, two hours of trying to get her to sleep. If she wants me to sing in the high pitched squeak of the Pontipines then that's what I'll do. Anything for peace at bedtime!

Has anyone actually heard The Pontipines? They don't talk they just squeak "mee me meep me" it is really hard to maintain that while singing. I tell you, this is a tough gig. I tried to break up the monotonous mee meeping with a round of "all the fish are swimming in the water" but she interrupted me.

"No fish. Happy. Pine happy".

So for the last 20 minutes I squeaked out the happy song and eventually Tinker agreed that it was time for bed.

So now the weekend can begin! I hope everyone has a lovely long weekend and be sure to check back on Monday because I have a fun announcement to make!

  2. Sometimes it takes my son a couple of hours to fall asleep and by the time it is all over, I am more exhausted than he is and I need a nap!

  3. Last night was crazy for us too, mine (almost a year) wouldn't go to sleep for a couple hours either :(. Glad you got her to sleep, even if it was in a high pitched voice!

  4. I have simply given up on bedtimes for my 5 year old! If he can get by on 5 hours of sleep (plus the 1.30hr he sleeps in the car on the way to school) so be it. Put me against the wall and shoot me, why don't ya! lol! He is my 'happy go lucky' phase child. I was hopping around and counting sheep and singing songs just like you for the first two. But you have got to give in at some stage!

  5. Ugh. Those long nights getting them to bed. My daughter has those often and I feel like such a slacker because she is 3 and a half and I feel I should have her trained better.

Hooray! Can't wait for the announcement on Monday!

  8. I ended up kicking hubby out of bed last night so Z could sleep with me. Only thing that is working at the moment. I'm going to pay for it later. I don't have the same energy for getting her to sleep as I did for No. 1!

  12. Oh the things we do! I made the 25 min drive home from Chadstone yesterday singing incy wincy spider over and over and over again in a bid to stop Amelie crying. I'm not sure what sounded worse? Amelie's crying or my singing?

  13. Hon are you sure the Pontipines have a song? I don't think I have ever heard them sing, I mean squeak! its always just the meememeeeemeeee. Lucky the Tinker isn't into Yo Gabba Gabba, I often sing the songs in a Foofa and Toodee voice (characters) and am surprised I haven't shattered the glass in all my windows with my high pitched hideous singing (wailing!!) My Nut loves it though :-P

  14. Jess are you schemeing with P23 to get me to record the song and upload it? Is that what you are up to??

Yes it is the mee meee meep squeak that I do to the tune of the "if you're happy and you know it" song. It really is a treat. T loves it. She asked this morning "happy? pine?" and I squeaked it out for her.
